Twenty-two undergraduate black women founded Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc., at Howard University on January 13,
1913. The founders recognized the need for black women to
be politically aware and involved, and more importantly
active in the community. Delta Sigma Theta was the first
black sorority committed to public service. Today Delta
Sigma Theta is the largest black women's organization in
